Round 12 of the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition sees the Young Yabbies take on the Harden Red Devils at the home of Harden Rugby, Roberts Park. There are only a handful of changes this week, with the backs really building some consistency in recent times.
The Forward Pack
The Front Row sees a slight change this week, with Will Munday unavailable Tom Wills moves in to command the Front Row as the Hooker. Tom will be flanked by Loosehead Prop Hagon Williams and Tighthead Prop Jesh Smith. The Second Row this week will see Rowan Daley return to the starting line up to partner up with Dan Cormie. With the unavailability of some of the Kelpie Pack this week, we will see Ed Brand return to the starting line up on one Flank with the Irish Recruit Kevin McLaughlin on the other. Dan Dowson will continue to lead the pack from the back this week in the No. 8 position.
The Backs
The Backs this week will be commanded, as usual, by Brendan Shoard as Flyhalf, with his partner in crime Captain Coach Ned Mullany as Scrumhalf. The Centres this week see Inside Centre Jesse Pittman partnering up with the speedster James Schiller as Outside Centre. The Yabbies Wingers are cementing themselves in with some outstanding performances from Beau O’Connor and Hugh McInerney. Owen Griffiths will snipe from the back and more than hold his own in defence this week, running on as Fullback for the Yabbies.
The Bench
This week the Yabbies’ First XV will be complemented by a string of high-calibre substitutes including Ben Fuller, Nick Schiller, Hugh Wills, Cam Rosser, Dan O’Connor and Mick Hudson.
Following a close match in Round 5 of the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition, which saw Harden take the chocolates 25-36 at Cranfield Oval, the game this weekend is expected to be another high-octane hit out between 2nd & 5th on the ladder and could potentially be a crucial game with relations to the Yabbies finals’ hope.
Coach Ned Mullany is confident that the squad named has the ability to get another Win on the board this weekend. “It’s been disappointing that we haven’t gotten the result we wanted the last 2 weeks, but I have a feeling our luck could change this weekend. We’ve continued to build as a club, our morale is still building and most importantly the effort that we’ve been putting into training has been obvious on game day. Everyone knows Harden have a few slick backs, so I think the key this week will be to maintain our composure in defence and shut them down early. If we can continue to get the defence part right like we have been, then the attacking opportunities should present themselves. This game will definitely be an 80 minute match and I reckon it’d be a ripper to watch from the sideline!”
The weather for this weekend is expected to be a bit warmer, with a top of 17°C predicted for this Saturday in Harden. With any luck the wind that’s been a nuisance this week will die down for game day, but I’d pack my Yabbies Beanie and Yabbies Jacket/Jumper just in case. As always, a Rugby match means that there is a high chance of some delicious cold beers for Supporters on the sidelines and in the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition it means that there is an excellent chance of some highly competitive and entertaining Rugby.
So search for any excuse you need to in order to make sure you're over at Roberts Park, Harden to see the Young Yabbies take on the Harden Red Devils this Saturday 6th July, with kick off at 3.15pm.
Always remember - Saturday’s a Rugby Day!
