Round 3 of the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition sees the Yabbies facing up against old rivals the Cootamundra Tri-Colours at Fisher Park, Cootamundra. This week the game has been moved forward slightly after a request from Cootamundra for a kick-off time of 2pm.
The line-up for Round 3 sees some continuity with the backline remaining virtually untouched, only a switch of wings for Beau O’Connor and Konah Miller, and unavailability of French recruit Thomas Dudek sees Nick Shiller take the starting No. 15 for Round 3. The forward pack changes see Tom Wills returning to his Vice-Captaincy in the starting No. 3, Hugh Wills earning himself a starting position in No. 6 after a very physical match in Round 2 and Rowan Daley & Tom Kent making a return to the field for their 2019 Yabbies Debut.
Coach Ned Mullany said he is looking forward to this clash, with Cootamundra being earmarked early on as the potential “team to beat” in 2019. “The dedication that the boys showed with the numbers at training during a bye week and with Public Holidays gives me confidence that they’re hungry for Rugby and hungry to get their first win of the season. The boys have showed in the last 2 games that they know how to get physical and from what we’ve been hearing, the game this weekend will be a solid test of both teams physicality.”
From a weather perspective, this weekend is pegged to see the mercury dip back into the mid to high teens (16-18°C) but remain fairly sunny. The dip in temperature will bring some relief to the players, especially having played the first 2 rounds of the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition in 25-28°C weather, but means that Supporters should go diving for their Yabbies Beanies and Hoodies (or Jackets). As always, a Rugby match means that there is a high chance of some delicious cold beers for Supporters on the sidelines and in the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition it means that is an excellent chance of some highly competitive and entertaining Rugby.
If you’ve got the chance, this weekend is a great opportunity to re-explore parts of the South West Slopes and make your way down to Fisher Park, Cootamundra, to see the Yabbies take on the Tri-Colours at 2pm on Saturday 27th April.
Always remember - Saturday’s a Rugby Day!
