Round 4 of the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition sees the Young Yabbies take on the Condobolin Rams at the heart of Young Rugby Union, Cranfield Oval.
The line-up for Round 4 is largely unchanged from the team that took the field for Round 3, with some last minute changes last week due to unavailabilities.
In the forwards the Front Row remains unchanged with Hagon Williams, Will Munday and Tom Wills cementing themselves as a force to be reckoned with up the front. Hamish Kaveney and Dan Dowson have returned to their natural positions as the driving force in the Second Row. On the side of the scrum we have Dan O’Connor and Dan Parker who are proving themselves to be some of the top contenders in the Yabbies’ arsenal of loose forwards, and Carlos Luna at No. 8 who showed just how damaging he can be in the Round 2 game v Boorowa.
The back-line this week sees Michael Stallard return again for a stint at Scrumhalf, with Team Captain and Club Captain Brendan Shoard calling the shots at Flyhalf. The Centres combination named this week was well tested last week in the last minute changes with Jesse Pittman at Inside Centre and Nick Schiller at Outside Centre. Wingers Konah Miller and Beau O’Connor have been proving themselves well in defence and that they definitely know how to run when the opportunities come out wide. The French Recruit Thomas Dudek returns this week to the Fullback position.
The First XV line-up this week will be complemented by a string of high-calibre substitutes including Ben Fuller, Jeshua Smith, Tom Hurley, Cooper Green, Michael Hudson and brand new recruit Owen Griffiths.
Coach Ned Mullany said that he’s keen to see how some of these combinations perform with some continuity in the system, he thinks this week should be a strong game against Condo. “The only thing that makes the selection job easy this year is when people aren’t available, it’s a strong squad and we’re going from strength to strength each week. I’m keen to see how our backline combination performs this week, with some continuity and no one really ‘playing out of position’. I reckon the box seat this weekend will be on the sideline at Cranfield Oval!”
The weather for the weekend is set to see the sun shining but with the mercury dipping again, we’re forecast for a top of 17°C for Saturday in Young. The rain this morning should have softened the ground up for the players, but shouldn’t make tomorrow’s game too messy. As always, a Rugby match means that there is a high chance of some delicious cold beers for Supporters on the sidelines and in the Oilsplus South West Rugby Competition it means that is an excellent chance of some highly competitive and entertaining Rugby.
The cooler weather this weekend is a great opportunity to dig out your Yabbies’ supporters Beanie and Hoodie (or Jacket). Or if you don’t have one, come on down and buy one from the Clubhouse!
In exciting news, the Yabbies can now offer EFTPOS in our Clubhouse! Bear in mind that tomorrow will be our first day with the machine, so please be patient with the team behind the bar!
So, come on down to Cranfield Oval to see the Young Yabbies take on the Condobolin Rams on Saturday 4th May, kick off at 3.15pm.
Always remember - Saturday’s a Rugby Day!
